DELICATE FLOWERS

My heart weeps for those poor, poor UCLA law students  suffering from the trauma of a horrible racist exam question from UCLA law professor Robert Goldstein.  The question was in the form of a hypothetical, asking whether, as a St. Louis, Missouri prosecutor, you would seek to indict Michael Brown’s stepfather for inciting a riot with his incendiary comments following the grand jury decision not to indict the police officer involved in his stepson’s death.

Law students pouted and complained, suggesting that the question was racially insensitive and divisive.  Boo hoo , budding new bottom feeding billboard tort snakes.  Remind me, the next time I need an attorney, to hire one over 40 years of age who has not been totally PC indoctrinated by our press and politicians and activists.

In addition to forcing the evil professor to apologize, and to promise not to grade the exam answer, believe I’m most peeved that our culture has reached a point where we cannot even discuss major issues of the day.   For instance, try to enter into a discussion about the President’s job performance, and you are slammed for being a racist.  Or try to calmly outline an argument against gay marriage (an oxymoron by the way) based on a biblical world view in a room of twenty somethings, and see the horrified looks on their faces.   Unfortunately, everything in this world is not black and white, not clearly defined, not easy to solve or to reach a middle ground.    But today, the labels of racism and bigotry we apply to those with opposing views, and different moral/ethical bases, makes calm discussion nearly impossible.

The situation described above is a perfect example.  A politically correct presumption (Brown’s aggrieved stepfather is above the law) cannot be questioned and discussed, even in the formative environment of a college campus.                                WHAT THE HECK !

THE END OF GIRLS’ SPORTS

Finally, the state of Minnesota has made it happen by taking the first step toward the elimination of girls’ athletics in high schools.   The Minnesota high school athletic board (MSHSL) last week overwhelmingly approved a policy allowing transgender students to pick and choose the gender of the sport in which they choose to participate.   Forgetting the locker room logistics for a moment, where’s the fairness for young women competing in a sport which now welcomes athletically superior males (come on, admit it) and squeezes out lifelong committed female athletes for the benefit of a few dudes who need psychiatric attention, and not a season of girls’ softball ?

Must everyone get a trophy ?  Must every tiny slice of society be pandered to, forgetting that it might infringe upon the rights of the majority ?  And how do we ever find qualified school administrators when they have to deal with silly issues such as transgender athletic rights ?  No wonder our public schools are lackluster.   And finally, I certainly hope that my headline never comes true, that as a culture we come to our senses.  Having ushered a son through teen years, I am so thrilled that athletics for women has become widely accepted and encouraged.  The young women who my son associated with were so more well rounded and level-headed than during my generation, in no small part due to the lessons they learned from participation in sports.  Go girls !                WHAT THE HECK !

SHAME SHAME ON YOU

Shame, shame on those of you who have chosen to contact this Wahoo, shaking your finger at privileged young male students, my University, the Greek system in general, the U.Va. charge of Phi Kappa Psi in particular, and my gender for that matter.   If that poor 1st year student indeed was raped on the Grounds two years ago, I hope the system tracks down those young men, puts them in jail, and cuts off………            But in this passionate time of instant judgment, I choose to wait until the alleged event is actually investigated, and the real facts unraveled.  Maybe four years on the Grounds gave me a little bit of common sense.

But shame on those of you who get your news from Rolling Stone magazine, the same publication that followed up the gussied-up U.Va. story this week with the headline, “The Police in America are Becoming Illegitimate”.  Try telling that to the next police officer you need in a crisis !   I would hope that my normally intelligent friends and relatives could discern between real investigative reporting, and selfish ranting to promote an agenda.      Shame on you.          WHAT THE HECK !

Loosely paraphrasing Dr. Hook and a fellow Wahoo friend:

Well I’m a big mag writer, a poison pen for hire, and I’m feared everywhere I go.  I write about fratters and I write about rape.  The truth really nobody knows.  I use all kinda slants to get all kinda rants, but some facts I will never show.  Cuz the thrill and the glory is to get my story on the cover of the Rollin’ Stone.   Wanna see my picture on the cover. Wanna buy five copies for my Mother.  Wanna see my smilin’ face and my name on the cover of the Rollin’ Stone.

WHAT’S TO COME

I have a great dentist, and a great cardiologist, and a great general practitioner.    But my dog’s veterinarian beats them all.   I’ve been suffering from some back problems which have required an X-ray and an MRI, while my pooch is struggling with some hip problems.   I have had to beg my GP’s office for test results, and guidance for the next steps in treatment.  This normally comes in the form of delayed voice messages from my doc’s nursing assistant.   Follow-up from our doggy appointments comes in the form of 1-2 telephone calls directly from the veterinarian within a day or two of the appointment.   The vet actually ends her day with 30 minutes of patient follow-up calls.    I sure hope that veterinary care in our country never  stoops to the level of that afforded to the human beings.                                     WHAT THE HECK !

LET THE EMPIRE BEGIN

obama emp 1

I   suppose that the emperor has been officially crowned, with the press’ total blessing, as this constitutionally challenged President/Emperor  intentionally gets in the face of Congress with his executive action involving millions of individuals unlawfully in the our country (PC way of saying illegal aliens).   Why are we so surprised ?  Wasn’t the emperorship clearly in the making with the IRS’ invasion of conservative groups in 2011-2013 ?  And just in case you are wearing opaque blinders, Operation Choke Point (OCP) may help you see the light.  Revealed by a recent Wall Street Journal columnist, OCP is a Justice Department initiative (ahh the Emperor’s sidekick Eric Holder) targeting industries considered undesirable by squeezing their bankers to terminate their lending relationships with those industries.  Examples of such undesirables attacked by Holder’s minions include pawnshops, payday lenders, firearms and surveillance equipment makers, and pharmacy wholesalers.  And just in case you are not a big fan of some of those alternative banking industries (pawn, check cashing), remember that over 50 million Americans have no access to the traditional banking system, including over half of African American households.  Remind me again just how the Proglibocrat party helps the poor, the needy, and the African American community.                                                         Too much power, baby !                    WHAT THE HECK !

POKER WITH THE PREZ

I cannot tell whether Emperor Barrack does more damage when he’s in Washington, or on his infrequent overseas jaunts to pursue recognition of some sort. In this case, the effort was to achieve some sort of agreement to pursue global reductions in carbon emissions.  After last week’s stop in China, I’m opting for door #2.     What a great deal achieved, for the Chinese.   I’m not that technology savvy, but the way I read the proposed treaty is that China has to do nothing until 2030, when “natural forces will begin to reduce China’s emissions”, while we agree to reduce our emissions  26-28%  by 2025, primarily on the back of our preference for big cars, and by effectively burying our coal industry and all the jobs that are dependent on it in five states.   The last little nugget missing from the Emperor’s press release is that there are no restrictions on our export of coal to heavy coal-using nations, you guessed it like China.   What am I missing here ?    Deal the cards !                               WHAT THE HECK !

TAIL WAGGING THE DOG ?

Last week, the Board of Education of Montgomery County, Maryland voted to scrub all Christian and Jewish holidays off the school calendar, in deference to a small vocal Muslim minority that screamed ” unfair treatment” and “discrimination”.   The little rugrats will still have the same vacation periods, but they will be referred to by such cutesy names as “Winter Holiday”.

So, we have another set of morons in charge of something bowing to the god of political correctness and making the average American throw up his arms in disgust.  How about a bold statement suggesting that this country is a nation founded on Judeo-Christian principles.  If you emigrate here with other customs and practices, try to fit in.  We respect your religious preferences, but refuse to have our culture dictated by them.    WHAT THE HECK !

MARYLAND OH MARYLAND

MDIs the world coming to an end ?   Have we entered The Twilight Zone ?     Unless I read this incorrectly this morning, believe the great liberal gulag of Maryland elected itself a Republican governor.   After eight years of punishing tax hikes and public union bullying,  did the citizens of the Crab state actually see the light, or did a major tsunami limit turnout to the few remaining wealthy people in the state ?       WHAT THE HECK !

CHARLIE CRIST POST MORTEM

empty suitStunning yesterday that nearly 3 million adult Floridians with at least half a brain voted to replace our incumbent governor with an empty suit, Charlie Crist.    After undergoing a complete metamorphosis from a conservative Florida governor to a Barrack-hugging liberal in just three short years, Crist had the gall to try to crawl out of the hole he lives in and back into a leadership position in a state that is running pretty well under the incumbent’s leadership.   What will it take to convince folks in Florida that Crist bears no allegiance to any thought or idea other than to Charlie Crist ?   Well, there’s always the Pinellas County dogcatchers race next year !                                           WHAT THE HECK !

SO HAPPY ELECTIONS ARE OVER

Don’t get me wrong, I’m quite pleased with yesterday’s election results, particularly the tidal wave of support for Republican governors.  A big slap in the face for public unions and those that think every federal dollar  offered to a state should be grabbed.  In Florida, for example, our own governor, a Republican, won re-election after turning down federal funds for a state-wide passenger rail system and for a dramatic expansion of eligible Medicaid recipients. These grants carry the allure/witchcraft of up-front federal money, but ignore the staggering deficits/costs to be borne solely by the state in 3-5 years.

Back to the topic though.  I’m so happy to have my TV and radio airwaves freed from aimless and wasteful advertisements.  I’m happy that my postman isn’t half bent over from delivering throwaway brochures.  And I’m happy that the barrage of computer voices on my telephone has concluded.  And finally, I’m so relieved to silence the talking heads on television and radio pretending to read the pulse of America.

But above all else, I am so glad that I don’t have to hear voices, some within my own family, tell me how my vote for a third party (Green, Libertarian, Tea, Independent, Green Tea) is wasted.  How dare they funnel me into a two party system whose national lawmakers (Congress) enjoy  a 12% approval rating.    No wonder the Tea Party arose from dissatisfaction with its own party.  No wonder the ranks of Libertarians and assorted other independents continue to grow.  The two parties, according to Ralph Nader (gosh I hate quoting Ralph Nader), don’t own all the voters.    The Constitution does not even mention the words ” political parties.”                 WHAT THE HECK !
